Man Taken Into Custody for Allegedly Stalking and Harassing UConn Superstar Paige Bueckers Over Extended Period

An Oregon man has been arrested for stalking and harassing Paige Bueckers, a star basketball player at the University of Connecticut (UConn). Robert Parmalee, 40, faced an online judge on Monday and is charged with electronic stalking, harassment, and breach of peace. The stalking charge is a felony. He has not entered a plea and is being held on a $100,000 bond.

If he gets out on bond, the judge has ordered him not to go to Mansfield, where UConn is located, and not to contact Bueckers, who is 22 years old. 

UConn police became aware of Parmalee in June after he sent strange and alarming emails to university staff. In these emails, he claimed to be part of the Royal Family and said he wanted to marry someone on the UConn women’s basketball team. 

Parmalee also made worrying posts on social media, including threats against Bueckers' family. On TikTok, he wrote that if he couldn't be with her, he would choose to die and take others with him. He even posted a fake wedding invitation and a picture of a diamond ring.

Parmalee was arrested on August 27 while walking along a highway near Bradley International Airport, about 30 miles from UConn. He was wanted in Oregon for an arson charge, where he allegedly tried to burn down his home with his roommate inside.

According to reports, Parmalee started sending videos to Bueckers on Instagram in February. She went to campus police because she was worried about her safety and her family’s safety. Neither Bueckers nor the UConn basketball team is commenting on the situation. Parmalee is scheduled to appear in court again on October 22, and a protective order against him was issued on Monday.
