Sean Combs, the well-known music mogul, was arrested in Manhattan on Monday evening after being indicted by a grand jury. The specific charges against him were not immediately known.Uploading: 1486848 of 1925358 bytes uploaded.

His legal team expressed disappointment over the decision to charge him. They emphasized that Combs had been cooperating with the investigation and had even moved to New York in preparation for these charges. In their statement, they described Combs as a music icon, successful entrepreneur, devoted father, and philanthropist who has worked to support the Black community over the past 30 years. While acknowledging that Combs is not perfect, they insisted that he is not a criminal.

Sean Combs, also known as Diddy and Puff Daddy, played a major role in the rise of hip-hop during the 1990s and 2000s, helping launch the careers of artists like the Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige. However, he has been facing increasing public scrutiny since his former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him last November. She accused him of years of sexual and physical abuse.

Combs quickly settled the lawsuit with Ventura, also known as Cassie, who had been signed to his record label. He denied any wrongdoing, but over the following months, more legal troubles emerged. Five additional lawsuits were filed by women accusing him of sexual assault, along with three other sexual misconduct cases. Combs’s legal team is actively fighting these allegations in court.

In March, federal agents raided Combs’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami Beach, stopping him at a Miami airport and seizing his electronic devices. Although no official statements were made at the time, it was reported that the investigation might involve human trafficking. Federal prosecutors in New York had already spoken to several witnesses about sexual misconduct allegations against Combs.

Combs has strongly denied all the accusations, calling them "sickening" and claiming that the accusers are seeking quick money. His lawyers criticized the federal raids, arguing that the use of armed agents was excessive. However, his defiant stance softened in May after CNN released hotel security footage from 2016 that showed Combs assaulting and kicking Ms. Ventura. Following the release of the video, Combs posted a public apology, admitting that his behavior was wrong and sharing that he had sought professional help.

Sean Combs is a well-known music producer who played a major role in bringing hip-hop into the mainstream through his record label, Bad Boy Entertainment. He became famous not just for his music but also for his larger-than-life persona, hosting star-studded parties and starring in the popular MTV reality show “Making the Band” in the mid-2000s. Beyond music, he also built a successful brand with ventures in fashion, liquor, and a cable TV network called Revolt.

Despite his success, Combs has faced accusations of violence for many years. However, this current investigation is the first time he’s been involved in such a widespread legal inquiry over his behavior across several years. Back in 2001, he was put on trial for a nightclub shooting but was found not guilty of gun and bribery charges.

More recently, Combs adopted a new image, asking people to call him "Love" and even naming his newest daughter Love. He released his first solo album in 17 years, titled “The Love Album: Off the Grid,” under a new label, Love Records.

Last year, as Combs was enjoying positive attention from his new album and long career, his former girlfriend, Cassie (Casandra Ventura), filed a lawsuit against him. In her lawsuit, she accused him of very serious acts of abuse, including forcing her into disturbing sexual situations over more than a decade. She claimed that Combs had arranged for male prostitutes to have sex with her in front of him and made her use escort services for drug-fueled events he called "freak-offs." Combs decided to settle Cassie’s lawsuit quickly, but his legal team is fighting the other lawsuits that have followed, calling them false accusations meant to get money.

Combs’s lawyers argued that one lawsuit, which accused him of participating in a gang rape in 2003, had badly damaged his reputation based on unproven claims. Another lawsuit filed by a male music producer accused Combs of making unwanted sexual advances, which Combs’s lawyers called completely made up for attention.

Since these lawsuits have been filed, Combs’s business ventures have started to fall apart. He sold his share in Revolt and his stake in DeLeón tequila, a business partnership with the company Diageo. A New York charter school network also cut ties with him.

In September, Combs listed his mansion in Los Angeles, where federal agents had raided his home earlier in March, for $61.5 million. Federal agents took electronic devices during the raid as part of an investigation into him.

Prosecutors have been increasingly using sex trafficking laws to address sexual assault cases, especially since the #MeToo movement. For example, R&B singer R. Kelly was convicted of racketeering and violating an anti-sex trafficking law called the Mann Act. The same department, Homeland Security Investigations, led the inquiry into Combs. The raids on his mansion were shown on television, where footage revealed agents taking electronics from his home. The mother of one of Combs’s sons later shared a video of agents pointing guns at Justin and Christian Combs as they were being held inside their father’s home.

Since the raid, federal prosecutors have kept quiet but have continued working on the case, sending subpoenas to possible witnesses to gather evidence against Combs.
